Intelligent sensor networks allow monitoring of different process parameters and environmental variables in industrial applications. The extracted data is utilized to control, evaluate and optimize the manufacturing process and the consumption of resources and therefore reduces costs and increases productivity.

The objective of this project is to investigate novel communication and fusion strategies for data processing in wireless sensor networks. Further, more robust and energy-efficient algorithms that are able to handle limited bandwidth and possible package loss are developed. A crucial part of the project is the close collaboration with the company TRUMPF GmbH + Co and the possibility to work with a real industrial sensor network under realistic conditions. The gained knowledge will enable a more sophisticated utilization of intelligent sensor networks in industrial applications.
